Cadwell Park - 10th & 11th October
This meeting was the last in the 2009 calender
for the C.R.M.C and is their Race Of the Year Meeting. The race format being slightly different to the normal. Instead of
2 races per day we have 2 races Saturday of which count towards the championship and then Suday features 1 longer race with
the winner earning the right to display the number 1 plate the following season. We arrived at the circuit on Thursday
afternoon and set up camp. Friday saw us have the outfit safety checked and noise tested (101 db so well under the limit)
and sign on ready. Saturday was a cold but bright start and practice went well with the bike running good and feeling
great. Our first race of the day was the second of the meeting and earlier than normal. We took up position at the back of
the grid and had a steady ride but elected to pull in after 4 laps of 5 had been completed as Grant's arm / wrist were
feeling a bit sore. Race 2 was after lunch and again due to be a 5 lap affair. However follwoing an eventful few races with
a few stoppages and delays this was cut to just 3 laps which to be honest suited us better! We again started from the back
of the grid and had another steady ride just enjoying oursleves and gaining some valuable track time. Sunday dawned and
another cold but relatively dry day followed. The Race Of the Year was due to be over 7 laps but due to yesterdays stoppages
etc. was reduced to 6 laps and then to 5. We got a cracking start from the back of the grid and passed 4 outfits on the fast
run upto Copice and passed a further 2 going round Coppice. Sadly it was all in vain as we headed down the Gooseneck we could
see an outfit had spun off and the red flags came out. Due to the rider of the outfit needing medical attention an early lunch
was called. The re run came and again we got a great start and were having a great 5 way battle at the back end of the
field which we were doing well in until we headed for the Gooseneck for the third time when Grant felt a nasty wobble from
the front and shut off allowing the other outfits passed. We carried on round and pulled off in the pits. The cause was found
to be a front tyre that had gone flat - possibly a puncture? As a result we decided not to enter the handicap race.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the C.R.M.C marshals, officials and sidecar teams for a great season despite
all the challenges
C.R.M.C Brands Hatch - 11th & 12th July This was the first actual meeting for us this year and following on from the great time we had at Croix where
we finally proved that we have now sorted the engine we were full of high hopes and expectations. Due to a lack of race
action this year and the fact the C.R.M.C championships were in full swing we elected to start from the rear of the grid so
as not to cause any problems. Race 1 Saturday ended in chaos with a huge pile up of some 7 or 8 outfits on the exit of Paddock
Bend. Grant did a great job of steering us safely through the debris. The restart was held after lunch and we had a steady
ride. on returning to the pits we found the front brake caliper on one side very hot so we had some adjustments to try to
sort it for race 2. Race 2 came and went but without us as the fuel regulator decided to fail on the warm up lap! Sunday
dawned and our first race came round and we soon headed out having sorted the fuel regulator and further adjusted the brakes.
We had another steady ride with a fastest lap some 2 seconds quicker than yesterday. Race 2 saw us get a superb start and
despite taking up a grid slot at the very back of the grid we passed a couple of outfits on the run into Paddock. We had a
great next few laps and were really begining to enjoy ourselves when on lap 4 one of the 2 outfits behind us decided to slam
into the back of us sending us hurtling acroos the track and thrown out of the outfit. The race was stopped due to the incident
which resulted in Grant sustaining a very nasty broken arm and collar bone.
