****** Stop Press - latest event we will be attending *****

Beezumph 19 - The anual rally of the Trident & rocket Three Owners Club will be at Anglesey on 16th & 17th July 2010

The 2009 Season is now over - roll on 2010!

The 2009 season has now come to a close and has proved to be another challenging year for the team. We experienced our first overseas meeting at the trophee Gerard Jumeaux weekend at Croix-en-Ternois and also had our first accident when we shunted at Brands.
The closed season will allow us to further develop the outfit with most of the attention going on the chassis this time as the engine is now well sorted thanks to the expert attention of Richard Darby of 3D Motorcycles. It will also give Grant's arm time to heal as following a visit to the hospital following the Cadwell meeting x-rays showed that he has managed to re break his radius.

The team would like to thank all the C.R.M.C marshals and officials, Richard Darby of 3D Motorcycles, Mike Richards of M R Equipe and all our fellow competitors for the support and camaraderie

Croix-en-Ternois 20th & 21st June

The 'Trophee Gearad Jumeaux' meeting held at the challanging and fast Croix-en-Ternois circuit in France saw us out on track for the first time proper this year. The outfit was quickly safety checked and all was well. We were issued our track pass and were ready for the off. We had 2 25 minute sessions each day and after a first lap behind the pace car  were then free to ride at our own pace. It was very quickly apparent that the engine was feeling very good with a lot of speed. The brakes were still not quite right though so some work to be done. The first session went great and saw us learning our way round. When we returned to the pits we found a couple of very slight oil leaks to sort. One was a slight weep from the front rocker box whixh was quicklyand easily sorted by simply nipping up the bolts. The other wasa very slight drip on the underside which looked to be from an oil pipe. The clips were duly tightended and on returning from the second session an improvement shown. The session ended sooner than planned however as the engine developed a misfire after about 15 minutes and we pulled in. the cause was quickly and clearly found - the timing side spark plug cap had been smashed in half! probably by Grant's arm!
Sunday we decided early on in the day that we would only do the first session due to the late timing of the second. We really enjoyed this session getting quicker and quicker as we now had a better idea of how the track went.
It was great to see two other Trident powered outfits on track as well as a huge assortment of other outfits and a large variety of solo macines too. All in all it was terrific weekend with a lot of positives and at last some fun too!

Pembrey - came and went!

Following collecting the frame from Terry Mead following some reapir work the rebuild commenced at full speed due to an every tightening deadline. We managed to get everything put together and the engine running sweet as a nut on Sunday 22nd March so we could go testing at Mallory on the Wednesday with a week to sort any issues should there be any. The test went very well at first. The first session saw us pull in after only 1 lap with the clutch slipping badly. The cause was known straight away - the oull rod needed adjusting which was quickly done and we ready for the second session. We took to the track and were really flying and the bike felt great. On the 4th lap Grant noticed some oil on his boot so we pulled in. The cause was found to be a split pushrod tube seal and would see the end of the day for us. The following weekend saw us wielding spanners in the garage to replace the seal. On reassembly however things went badly wrong when a thread that secures one of the pillar studs pulled. Not wanting to rush a repair the sad decision was made that we would not compete at the CRMC's season opener at Pembrey.
It is not all bad news though for we have just been sent some wonderful parts from Dave Madigan in the USA. They are a CNC machined sump plate to his design which is a true work of art along with a set of rocker box inspection caps and the icing on the cake is hydraulic clutch conversion. These parts will be fitted in the nest few weeks along with a new barrel which we are currently sourcing.

2009 will be a very exciting season for Triplebrew Racing. Following on from our rather dissapointing previous couple of seasons a lot of effort and work have gone into our outfit and we are looking to finally reap the rewards. The engine has been the main issue following its unexpected (and arguably unwanted) capacity hike to approximately 940cc. The poblems this cauesd were frustrating and difficult to diagnose. Initially after the increase the engine destoyed a big end bearing requiring a full strip and rebuild which was carried out by a well repsected Triple company (who had also done the rebuild to the larger engine supplying all the components). This was done only to fail again at the very next meeting. At this point it was decided enough was enough as a) it was now getting very expensive and b) we had lost pretty much all of the 2008 season, to send the engine to Ricahrd Darby of 3D Motorcycles who we had used before with exceelent results. Once Ricahrd had stripped the motor the cause of the big end failures were clear - our 'new' crankshaft was 2 thou undersize on one of the journals!Once the rebuild had been done we went racing only to be faced with a new problem! The symptoms were clear - oil being passed out the crankcase breather in ever ioncreasing volumes! Various ideas were tried including a sump extension and various additional breathers. Seeking advice and help from many sources the final idea to try (before pulling the motor down and fitting a standard crank and standard length rods to revert back to 840cc when we had none of these issues) was to put a large diameter breather from the rev counter take off and into a catch bottle. This was done in November last year and thanks to some very generous help from Pete Chuchill and Richard Darby we went to Mallory Park for the final testing of the year. Despite it being wet it was clear from the start that a vast improvement had been made. Not only was there no oil being passed from any of the breathers but the engine ran cooler, pulled much cleaner and finally sounded like a good triple should. With the engine now sorted it has been handed back to Richard Darby of 3D Motorcycles for a health check and clean up. Whilst this is happening the frame has been stripped bare ready for painting. However we have found a few cracks that need attention and slightly more worrying the head stock will require some fairly drastic repair work to rectify some past 'repairs'. It is interesting to see how a frame develops over the years and now ours is free from paint you can see all sorts of alterations, repairs etc. that have occured over the years. Once the frame and engine are back in our poseesion we can reassemble everything and begin testing too get a few laps under our belts before the season starts.

It's A Triple Thing!
